of the deep

there are stories that follow the night
and a forgotten crew
silently
words that lie dead beneath the purple waves
until the dark
awakens the ghosts
that call to the loneliness of the soul

there is no god
they say
and men know that to listen
and believe
at any hour on the sea
easily opens the dream that diamonds
settle under the water
and with a dive beneath the darkness
there is wisdom
there is light

so they navigate
on the path of stars that stretches
into the reflection of the moon
hopeful to catch the last rays
that wash into obscurity

it is known
that god always conquers death
when the sun is high
and the waves calm

but under the dark of night
when voices are deep
it is one step away
