a few steps forward
step back slowly with me, my friend
to a different time
to a different place
where trees sprout ideas and flowers sing off key
to a world painted by fairies
and filled to the rim with rainbows
look around isn’t it beautiful
time bends gently here
giving all a chance to sit back and watch the clouds circle in the sky
step back even further
and you will hear the giggle of the river on the grassy hill above your head
its fall to the pond always a joyous ride
now follow this river through the valley
until it is shadowed from the sun
and here you will find a giant oak that spreads wide with the horizon
unearthed by the people who danced with the birds
go to it after the day has ended and before the night has begun
when the world has become quiet
and listen
slowly
softly
it will tell you all you need to know
when it is through
the stars will twirl through the sky announcing the night
playing, laughing until they settle to their beds for the long cool hours of darkness
you too will know that you must rest and dream of a place not so unlike this
a place on the edge of this world of rainbows
a world with cars, and jobs, and cities, yet sunshine
just a few steps forward
