do you recall the picture

do you recall the picture

fluid earth rising over stale moon
a swirling blue agate
we captured with our rook

it was one small step for small feet
& one giant step for all eyes
looking to outer space

we raised the flag, raised the flag
raise the flag
when will it stop, when will it ever stop

remember three men sitting at a table
dividing the world like a piece of pie
can you see it? gluttony, the legacy of Versailles

lines drawn
lives changed
egos enlarged on the rainbow map

divide & conquer, conquer & divide
it continues on & on & on & on

a frightened slant eyed face
travels around the world
faster than the heart can see

before we hear the sound
a bullet reaches him, immediately
a war fought between the rice paddies arrives home

do the righteous win?
lose?
or never stop fighting?

you tell me

bombs brought right into our living rooms
resting, next to polite conversation
adoring the coffee table with intelligence, wit, beauty

film touches eternity
spirals it to each vortex we call life
one moment
glorious . . .
horrific . . .

mirrored back again
mirrored back again
mirrored back again

mirrored back again
