shooting star

last night we laid on the driveway and looked at stars
it is seventeen years since we were married
and last night we looked at stars
Orion, the big dipper, Polaris
and they looked at us
knowing

satellites flew by keeping the world connected
and we followed their path between the stars
seventeen years of being connected
Pegasus, the milky way, Vega
and they followed us
knowing

mosquitoes swarmed above our heads, bats feasted
and we felt the air move with life
married, still hungry for years
Pisces, shooting stars, Arcturus
and they felt us
knowing
